MartinLogan non ha inventato la tecnologia del trasduttore elettrostatico. Ma eliminando le carenze percepite della tecnologia elettrostatica, come la scarsa gestione della potenza, la mancanza di risposta dei bassi e il palcoscenico stretto (beaming), MartinLogan ha rafforzato i vantaggi della tecnologia elettrostatica: un'incredibile precisione audio.
Un trasduttore elettrostatico ha tre componenti-statori, un diaframma e longheroni (distanziatori non conduttivi che mantengono fermo l'assemblaggio alto) -assemblati come un sandwich. Il diaframma è un film ultraleggero impregnato con un materiale elettricamente conduttivo e teso in tensione tra due statori, che sono lamiere di acciaio perforate rivestite con un isolante.
